DIY: Doggy Pops

frozen dog treats

There’s no doubt about it: temperatures are rising, making it our responsibility as pet parents to keep our animals comfortable. On top of providing ample shade and fresh water when our dogs are outdoors, we always enjoy spoiling our best friends with some easy, at-home pupsicles. Depending on your pooch’s preferences, here are a couple of cool recipes to try!

Whole Fruit

4 cups water

1 cup chopped fresh fruit (no grapes!)

1 tbsp molasses, dissolved in water

Mix ingredients; a blender is best, but whisking will certainly get the job done. Pour in molds (old yogurt cups work wonderfully!) or an ice tray and freeze.

Savory Bacon Pops

1 cup low-sodium chicken stock (or you can make your own at home)

½ cup water

3 oz bacon, chopped, or real bacon bits

Combine in a bowl, pour in molds, and freeze. *Pro-Tip: Use sliced carrot as a popsicle stick!

Creamy Apple Honey

12 oz. plain, non-fat yogurt

2 tbsp peanut butter

2 tbsp honey

1/3 cup all-natural applesauce

Mix ingredients in a bowl. Pour and freeze.

Of course you can tailor any of these to your pet’s specific tastes, like using beef broth instead of chicken or a ripened banana instead of applesauce. *Pro-Tip: Freeze watermelon cubes for a quick, cool treat you and Buddy can enjoy!
