Nutrition

Energy, a healthy mouth, clear eyes, a shiny coat and overall wellness: Everything you want for your pets relies on a sound diet. As you research pet food nutrition and all-natural dog treats, be sure to compare nutritional information.

At Stewart, offering complete nutrition for pets is our ultimate goal. Our pet food contains higher levels of nutrients and essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, enzymes and antioxidants. These building blocks to health form the basis of our recipes for pet food nutrition. We leave out the grain and other fillers. Nutritionally dense ingredients mean your pet can easily digest, absorb and utilize more of the nutrients.

To maintain the integrity and full nutritional value of our products, our primary production method is to chop our ingredients in small batches to minimize cell damage. All product is then individually quick frozen (IQF) at -30 degrees for 10 minutes to keep the nutritional value intact. Freeze drying retains the flavor and nutrition of our whole-food ingredients. Unlike with dehydrated or cooked foods and treats, the enzymes, vitamins and amino acids aren’t “heated out” during processing of Stewart products.

Our single and limited-source protein recipes are perfect for dogs with allergies or sensitivities. The glucosamine and chondroitin that support joint health are naturally occurring compounds in our raw diet ingredients. For our pet foods, we even pack in fresh fruits and vegetables for vitamins, antioxidants and to support dogs’ cardiovascular and immune systems. Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids promote healthy skin and coat, and can reduce shedding.

Premium quality ingredients mean your dog can eat less while reaping all the nutritional benefits from food that is:

  • High in Protein
  • Naturally Supportive of Joints
  • Low Carb
  • Prebiotic & Probiotic
  • Allergy Friendly
  • And Guaranteed Delicious!

Transparency

If you are looking for true transparency in processes and real meat dog food, Stewart’s transparent processes are for you. Choosing healthy pet food and treats can seem overwhelming. Stewart makes the choice easier by conforming to industry-standard guidelines and clarifying the origin of our products’ ingredients.

The beef, chicken, turkey and duck in Stewart recipes are raised in the U.S. Our salmon treats and food are crafted from wild caught Alaskan salmon. We source lamb for our treats and food from New Zealand.

Our products are made in the US in a routinely inspected facility. Our fresh, human-grade ingredients are USDA certified.

Our food recipes conform to guidelines published by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO). The AAFCO Dog and Cat Food Nutrient Profiles establish practical minimum and some maximum nutrient concentrations for dog and cat foods formulated from commonly used, non-purified, complex ingredients.

As AAFCO says, “The best defense consumers have is understanding what they are feeding animals in the first place, how to handle pet food products safely and how to use them correctly in feeding companion animals.” You can find more information on food guidelines at AAFCO Talks Pet Food.

Safe Practices

Our top priority is your furry family member’s safety and producing safe pet food that’s nutritionally dense and delicious. Stewart Raw Naturals diets are cold process pasteurized using high-pressure processing (HPP).

Unlike traditional heat processing, HPP does not damage or destroy the protein (amino acids) of meat. During HPP, cold water under very high pressure destroys microorganisms that cause spoilage, so there’s no need for chemical preservatives. This non-thermal processing method inactivates harmful bacteria such as salmonella, listeria and E.coli.

To ensure absolute pet food safety, all of our products are produced under the following programs:

  • HACCP: Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points
  • GMP: Good Manufacturing Practices
  • TQC: Total Quality Control
  • SSOP: Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures
  • PREOP: Pre-operational Inspections
  • PIP: Planned Improvement Program

Other measures taken to ensure the safety of our products include:

  • Annual third-party Food Safety Audits in which our production facility is always among the highest scoring.
  • Random testing to ensure nutritional integrity and food safety.
  • Test and hold Protocol: All finished products are tested at an independent, USDA/FDA-accredited, third-party lab where every batch is held until all tests for E. coli 0157:H7, listeria monocytogenes and salmonella come back negative and are properly recorded. Only then will our product be released for shipment.
